Nottm Forest ready £15m move for late signing after Rangers decision
After an unsuccessful attempt to buy Rangers star Jack Butland, Nottingham Forest has reportedly focused
on pursuing Crystal Palace custodian Sam Johnstone, according to Alan Nixon.
On Wednesday, January 31, the Sun journalist said on his Patreon page that Forest is prepared to offer
thirty-year-old Johnstone £15 million.
It is understood that Palace could let the former West Brom goalkeeper leave Selhurst Park for the right
price after he dropped behind Dean Henderson in the pecking order.
After a bid for Rangers player Butland fell through, Nixon said Forest is preparing a bid for Johnstone.
Tom English, a writer for BBC Sport, said on Tuesday, January 30, that the 30-year-old Ibrox is not now
open to offers from the Scottish Premiership.
Rangers are unable to sell Butland at this time of month.
This season at Ibrox, he’s been without a doubt the most reliable player—possibly the best.
He’s undoubtedly one of the few gems from Michael Beale’s tenure as the Gers manager,
having not only filled the massive vacuum left by Allan McGregor but also surpassing Greegsy in his performance.
Butland is the top custodian in Scotland, and he has shown throughout this season that he is among the
best in the whole of the United Kingdom with his efforts for the Light Blues.
You would think he would have a chance of making Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the summer
European Championships in Germany if he wasn’t playing against sides like
Livingston and St Mirren every week.
If Forest had made the £15 million bid for Johnstone—another talented English goalkeeper—at Ibrox, they
could have garnered some attention.
Fortunately, though, they aren’t planning to do that, so Rangers won’t have to make a difficult choice.
