Top 10 candidates for the Jerry West Award include Antonio Reeves.
Antonio Reeves, a guard for Kentucky, was named to the 2024 Jerry West Award Top 10 list by the Naismith
Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Tuesday. The trophy, which is in its tenth year, is named after the 1959 NCAA
Final Four Most Valuable Player and Naismith Hall of Famer.
Coming from Chicago, the UK’s top scorer averages 19.5 points each game. Reeves is recording career-best percentages of 50.2% from the field, 43.1% from 3-point range, and 87.3% from the charity stripe.
He scored 27 points against Illinois State after scoring 30 points in a victory at Louisville. Reeves became just the
fourth player from the UK to score thirty or more points against Louisville in the series. Reeves became one of only
three players in the John Calipari era to have multiple games with 30 or more points, along with Oscar Tshiebwe (4),
Malik Monk (4), and Jamal Murray (3), after his 30-point performance vs Louisville.
This season, Reeves has scored more than ten points in ten games and more than double figures in all but one of
them. He joins 2022 National Player of the Year Tshiebwe as the only other UK player under Calipari to have 20
career 20-or-more scoring attempts. He has scored more than 20 points seven times in his career while travelling.
He scored more over 2,000 points in his career against Georgia, combining his time at Kentucky and Illinois State.
He’s only 142 points away from breaking the 1,000-point mark as a Wildcat.
Supporters can vote for their preferred players in the remaining rounds at hoophallawards.com beginning on
February 2. During the finalist selection process, one committee vote will be counted from the fan vote.
Reeves is the only Southeastern Conference player to be among the top 10 scorers in the country for shooting guards. The SEC Sixth Man of the Year is currently leading the conference in both free-throw and 3-point %, as well as in made 3-pointers per game, points per game, and field-goal percentage.
