Rangers could instantly replace Cifuentes with late swoop for “creative” 5ft11 dynamo – opinion
Rangers could be close to losing Jose Cifuentes this month
If the latest speculations about Glasgow Rangers are accurate, the team looks to be having a successful final few days of the January transfer window.
First, Fabrizio Romano said that the Brazilian left-back Jefte from Fluminense would be joining the Gers.
Philippe Clement is hoping to strengthen the team’s left defense, and Romano believes Jefte would be a great addition.
Second, Rangers Review writer Chris Jack claims that the Belgian is getting closer to making a deal for Oscar Cortes,
a talented young player from Colombia. This is just another instance of enticing a gifted player to Ibrox.
Before deadline day on Thursday, the 49-year-old may also be looking to move a player or two out in order to free up some funds, and it looks as
though a summer arrival may end his stint in Glasgow early…
Potential departures before the deadline
Amid all the news about the potential incomings to Ibrox last week, there was also some news regarding departures.
Jose Cifuentes appeared to be out of favor before his time in Scotland could truly take off as it was claimed that Turkish team Rizespor had made a
loan offer to sign him for a season-long loan that would last until the conclusion of the season before perhaps triggering a £2 million option to buy.
But according to a scenario update provided by journalist Derek Clark, the midfield player is not interested in moving to Turkey this month.
The story is not over yet. According to journalist Alan Nixon, Cifuentes has been given permission by the Ibrox side to talk to Cruzeiro,
a Brazilian team, about a loan move.
Even though the transfer window is almost over and there may still be a lot of twists and turns, it appears that the
Colombian player is getting close to finalizing his departure from the team.
While Mohammed Diomande has joined the club this month, could Clement perhaps make a move for another midfielder?
Rangers’ search for new signings
Having signed Fabio Silva from Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan towards the end of December, the next few weeks proved to be rather
disappointing in terms of further new arrivals.
There were plenty of links, with Steven Alzate being a player who Clement was showing interest in, according to Belgian news outlet DH Les
Sports during the early stages of the transfer window.
The midfielder is currently on loan at Standard Liege from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion,
yet his contract is expiring at the end of the current season.
This could perhaps entice Clement into securing a knockdown fee with the Seagulls in the hope that he can lure him to Ibrox.
