Fourth OL for Oklahoma Acquired Through Transfer Portal
Geirean Hatchett, a former offensive lineman for Washington, announced his transfer to Oklahoma on Monday afternoon. After four years with the Huskies, including two limited seasons, Hatchett announced on Thursday that he was going to the transfer portal. Pro Football Focus gave the 6-foot-4, 303-pound guard a 59.8 offensive grade in 2023 as opposed to 72.6 in 2022. Hatchett played 71 snaps last season, recording a 67 pass blocking grade and a 70.1 run blocking grade. The majority of Hatchett’s time on the field at Washington came at right guard, but the veteran played a brief stint at left guard against Texas in the College Football Playoff Semifinal. Hailing from Ferndale, WA, Hatchett was a 4-star recruit out of high school, ranking No. 207 overall and No. 8 guard in the 247Sports composite rankings. But Hatchett isn’t the only new face in the trenches; throughout the offseason, Spencer Brown, Michael Tarquin, and Febechi Nwaiwu also moved to Norman. With the departure of Mettauer, Green, Andrew Raym, Tyler Guyton, Walter Rouse, and the programme, Oklahoma will have to rebuild its offensive line from the ground up in preparation for the 2024 campaign. With the return of Jacob Sexton and the addition of four seasoned offensive linemen via the transfer portal, Bedenbaugh should have a respectable bunch to work with come spring football.
