The Dallas Cowboys‘ last victory of the season came against the Washington Commanders on the road in Week 18.

For the other staff members engaged, it was also, in a sense, the last game.

Ron Rivera’s tenure as head coach of the Commanders came to an end shortly after the regular season.

Remarkably, Rivera was appointed in the same cycle of 2020 as Mike McCarthy and ended each season with a record

below.500, yet that first year’s performance was sufficient to win the division.

Since taking over the Carolina Panthers in 2011, Rivera has been a head coach every season.

He has a long history in the NFL. It was intriguing when he went through an interview process to become the coordinator for

the Philadelphia Eagles because sincere coaches with that calibre of background do not typically move down to that position.

In the end, Rivera is still seeking for a place to call home because Philly chose Vic Fangio to manage their

defence and Kellen Moore to oversee their offence.

Dallas will be searching for a replacement if Dan Quinn, the team’s current defensive coordinator, eventually retires.

Quinn may be able to accept Rivera’s former position in Washington, which includes the captain role

with the Seattle Seahawks to fill the role.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Sunday… Dallas has interest in Rivera in that particular hypothetical.

“What happens if Dan Quinn decides to leave the Cowboys?

This one is intriguing. Ron Rivera has already conducted interviews to be the defensive coordinator for the Eagles.

It has been reported to me that, should Dan Quinn decide to go, the Cowboys may consider investigating

Rivera for the position of defensive coordinator.

The former Commanders coach could actually take over as the Cowboys defensive coordinator.

Two years ago, Washington’s defence was largely respectable, but under Rivera, things have become a little rough,

which is not ideal for him considering that defence is his area of expertise.

To be fair to Rivera, the Commanders traded away Chase Young and Montez Sweat at the trade deadline,

effectively postponing the 2023 campaign.

Nevertheless, during the past four years, Dak Prescott and Mike McCarthy have exposed the Washington group frequently;

it is difficult to see how the Cowboys could have witnessed this group so frequently up close and desired

for it to be a part of their organisation.

One of the few areas in which Rivera appears to excel is defence, so maybe the Cowboys want him to lead that unit.

With the Carolina Panthers, Rivera established a solid culture. Despite the difficulty of the position, he did his best to guide

the Washington team through various challenges.

Many moons ago, Rivera did in fact interview for the head coaching position with the Cowboys.

When Wade Phillips eventually won the job, he had an interview back in 2007.

Maybe he will actually come on board right away.
