Kellen Moore Hired as Eagles OC: Why Cowboys Fans Should Be Happy
The Dallas Cowboys are going to be seeing a familiar face twice a year next season.
Kellen Moore was hired as the Eagles offensive coordinator Saturday night.
Last season, Moore served as Justin Herbert’s and the Los Angeles Chargers’ offensive coordinator.
Following his professional retirement in 2018, Moore served as an assistant coach for the Dallas Cowboys, the Eagles’ division opponent, prior to joining the Chargers.
After coaching quarterbacks for a season, he was elevated to offensive coordinator and served as both Mike McCarthy’s and Jason Garrett’s assistant.
Questions About Moore
This is the third team in three years for Moore.
If that doesn’t tell you something I’m not sure what will.
Yes, the Cowboys choked in the playoffs again, but Dak Prescott was better with Mike McCarthy calling the plays.
He is a MVP finalist the year after Moore leaves.
With all those tools, Justin Herbert and the Chargers offence were not good, especially with Moore calling the plays.
Moore now joins a team that finished last season with an utterly terrible record.
Moore doesn’t seem to be thrilled there, so he will now work with Jalen Hurts and possibly AJ Brown if he resigns.
Last season, the Chargers were ranked 21st in scoring offence and 18th in overall offence.
Dallas’ scoring offence from 2019 to 22 was sixth, 17th, first, and fourth with Moore calling the plays for the Cowboys.
Not Worried
We saw what the Chargers offense looked right when the Cowboys played them in week 6.
They possess twice as many weaponry as the Eagles do.
Jordan Palmer, Keenan Allen, Justin Herbert, Austin Ekeler, and more.
Moore found it difficult to close off games towards the end, even with Dallas.
Instead of running the football when he needed to and ending the game on ice, he wanted to light up the scoreboard.
I don’t care that Moore is calling plays for the Eagles because I am a Cowboys fan. Dallas is aware of his interests and desires.
Hurts has reverted to his undergraduate persona.
Dallas should know that they want to run the football, and Hurts is the main reason.
The other reason I’m not worried is because not the pressure is on.
After the Eagles collapse a season ago, Nick Sirianni is on the hot seat.
Adding a fresh new offensive coordinator puts even more pressure on him and Moore.
In the event that this team fails, the Cowboys will win another division championship.
I understand the Cowboys have their own issues, but aside from Dallas, only Philadelphia has a chance to win this division.
Dallas will win the NFC East once more if they fold and their coaching staff turns things around.
The off-season promises to be fascinating.
Dan Quinn is still seeking a position as head coach in Seattle or Washington.
If he doesn’t land one, he will problem be back calling the defense.
I don’t love that, but it is what it is.
It’ll be fun when Dallas beats up on Moore twice next season and folks understand why he is now in his third team in three years.
