‘He’s talented’: Peter Grant reacts to Celtic possibly signing forward who scored twice v West Ham

The subject of whether Celtic should consider signing Tommy Conway, a forward for Bristol City, was posed to Peter Grant.

The English Championship’s highly regarded 21-year-old made headlines recently after his goals eliminated David Moyes’

West Ham United from the FA Cup.

After scoring at the London Stadium, Tommy Conway scored the winner in the replay at Ashton Gate.

When the Scotland U21 was mentioned to Peter Grant, he labelled him a ‘talented boy’, but saw one major issue in this

possible deal taking place for Celtic, as he told Go Radio.

Without negotiations even starting, he thinks a club like Bristol City would demand ‘£6-7 million’ for the player, which then

gives Celtic no chance.

Those in the Parkhead boardroom aren’t going to push to those levels because it will mean that they would have to enter

record-breaking territory.

Of course, if you could get a player like Tommy Conway for Matt O’Riley-like money, then he probably would be worth

looking at, but apart from that, it’s a big no from Peter Grant.

Tommy Conway at Celtic

“He scored two, home and away,” said Grant about Conway’s goals in the FA Cup. “He is a talented boy.

“It would be extremely expensive to pursue someone like Conway. You are discussing a sum of £6-7 million, and that is only

after two successful games. You have been shown on TV. That’s what it turns into.

“This boy has talent.” There are some really good boys down in England, but there’s no way you’re going to get close to them.

Burnley is paying thirty million pounds on a young youngster that we have never heard of.

Celtic’s search for a striker

Unless something dramatic happens in this final week, it looks like the club have decided against bringing in another forward.

Whether it is because the club wants to wait until the summer, Brendan Rodgers is content with what he has, or there are no

other realistic options.

Someone like Hyeongyu Oh will be put to the test severely from now until the end of the campaign, and he must respond to

his detractors.

You just get the impression that calls will be made for Celtic to replace the South Korean star in the summer if he doesn’t improve.
